Project Butter

Project Butter is a new commerce solution that Coupang is launching in 2022. This hardware and software solution will help merchants on our platforms monitor and grow their sales.

The Role

The Director of Product, Project Butter will manage and grow a high-performing Product team responsible for the launch and success of this new commerce system. Working closely with Engineering and Data Science teams in Seoul and Shanghai, s/he will define, and execute upon, a strategic Product roadmap that includes the development of new features and technologies to attract and retain tens of thousands of merchants on our platform. As well as overseeing all Product Development (front-end and back end), s/he will work with a wide range of external stakeholders, such as Marketing and Partnerships, etc.

Job Description

Position Overview:

Coupang is seeking a visionary and strategic leader to lead the technological direction and innovation of our Coupang POS product. This role requires a dynamic leader capable of driving the development and deployment of cutting-edge point-of-sale solutions tailored for diverse business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

- Technology Leadership: Develop and execute the technological roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals and market demands.

- Product Innovation: Oversee the design, development, and enhancement of Coupang POS systems, including POS terminals, kiosks, payment devices, and mobile ordering for FSR.

- Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of engineers and developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, UX designers, operation and sales teams to ensure the technology meets customer needs and market trends.

- Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous testing and quality assurance protocols to maintain the highest standards of product reliability and performance.

- Security and Compliance: Ensure all POS solutions adhere to the latest security standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

- Education: bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience

- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in technology leadership roles.

- Skills: Proficiency in software development, system architecture. Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

- Language: Must be proficient in English; knowledge of Korean or Chinese is preferred.

- Additional Requirements:

- Hands-On: Willingness to get hands dirty with technical details and problem-solving.

- Analytical: Very analytical and proactive in identifying and solving problems.

- Culture Fit: Thrive in a highly ambiguous, entrepreneurial culture.

- Experience: Preferred experience in e-commerce, food delivery, or consumer apps. Startup experience or taking products from zero to one and scaling is a plus.

- Relocation: Required to relocate to Korea.

- Visionary: Ability to foresee technological trends and integrate them into the product strategy to maintain a competitive edge.
