Job Summary:

As the Public Policy Director for Coupang’s business in Taiwan, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic engagement with governmental and regulatory bodies, labor unions, and key stakeholders, including trade associations and think tanks. You will act as the primary liaison with Taiwan’s technical enforcement agencies and manage government affairs that align with our corporate goals. As a leader in the region, you will manage a team and play a critical role in shaping the policy landscape to support business growth.

What You Will Do:

- Develop and execute comprehensive public policy strategies to support business objectives.

- Serve as the primary point of contact with Taiwan’s technical enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies, ensuring proactive engagement and cooperation on public policy matters.

- Build and maintain relationships with labor unions, trade associations, and think tanks to foster constructive dialogue and collaboration on critical policy matters.

- Identify, monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the business, and communicate these insights to internal stakeholders.

- Lead the organization’s response to public policy challenges and opportunities, advising leadership on potential risks and strategic responses.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, PR and operational teams, to align policy response to business goals.

- Manage and mentor a high performing team of public policy professionals (including managers), fostering growth and development within the department.

- Represent the company in external meetings, events, and public forums with government officials, industry leaders, and advocacy groups.

Essential Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, political science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

- 15+ years experience in a public policy, government affairs, or a related role, with a strong understanding of Taiwan’s regulatory and polictical landscape.

- An ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, fast-growth business environment and able to manage through ambiguity and approach challenges with a problem solving mindset.

- Proven track record of successfully engaging with enforcement agencies and managing government relations in Taiwan.

- Experience working with labor unions, trade associations, and policy think tanks, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain these relationships.

- Strong understanding of Taiwan’s labor laws, regulatory frameworks, and trade policies.

- Excellence communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent the company effectively in high-level discussions with policymakers and stakeholders.

- Proven leadership skills, with experience managing a team and driving results through collaborative efforts.

- Fluent in Mandarin and English, both written and verbal.
