Scope of Role:

Leading the Health & Safety Compliance team responsible for independent assurance on the operation of safety activities. This includes on-site audits, compliance monitoring, KPI tracking, risk assessment, and remediation of identified risks. The role also encompasses company-wide HR compliance, proactive problem identification, and solution implementation.

What will you do:

This Director of HR & EHS Compliance will be responsible for leading a team to ensure the organization maintains robust compliance programs in both Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Human Resources (HR). The key responsibilities and expectations are:

I. EHS Compliance:

  • Assurance & Monitoring: Conduct regular on-site audits, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and potential risks. Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on EHS compliance across all sites. This includes proactively identifying, assessing, and remediating safety issues, escalating as necessary.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Develop and maintain a comprehensive system for tracking, assessing, and communicating changes in applicable EHS laws, regulations, and standards to internal stakeholders. This includes conducting research, assessing the impact of new regulations, and developing implementation plans.

  • Risk Management: Lead the team in conducting risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring the effective implementation of those strategies. This also includes investigation of incidents and accidents.

  • Program Development & Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain effective EHS compliance programs aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

II. HR Compliance:

  • Compliance Assurance: Conduct regular reviews of HR policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, contracts (e.g., collective bargaining agreements), and employment standards. This includes reviewing employment contracts, employee handbooks, and other relevant documentation.

  • Issue Identification & Resolution: Proactively identify and address HR compliance risks and issues across the organization. Develop and implement solutions to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. This includes monitoring the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Policy Development & Revision: Develop, revise, and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with evolving laws and regulations.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure compliance with all relevant HR policies and procedures.

III. Leadership & Management:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of EHS and HR compliance professionals.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for EHS and HR compliance.

  • Communication & Reporting: Effectively communicate compliance information to all levels of the organization, including senior management. Prepare regular reports on compliance status and performance.

Essential Qualifications:

  • 16+ years of experience in compliance, HR, and/or EHS roles.

  • Strong understanding of EHS and HR laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to lead and manage a team.

  • Proficiency in report writing and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to write and read Chinese documents.
