What you will do

Coupang Rocket Growth Business is looking for an experienced category management, business development professional who has worked in eCommerce marketplaces leading channels or categories. As the Director of Rocket Growth Hardline (Books/ Stationary/ Kitchen/ Car Accessories/ Toys/ Baby Convenience/ Home/ Sporting Goods) you will play a pivotal part in Coupang’s Rocket Growth business. You are expected to manage a complex and fast paced organization while working with various stakeholders across multiple domains to establish short-term and long-term plans. You will manage teams responsible for category management, new seller acquisition, and account management to lamp up the growth. You will have to work effectively across organizations to influence the roadmaps of interdependent teams to deliver against Rocket Growth Business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a leader, provide a strategic vision for the business you run, and build and develop strategic relationships with internal/external key partners based on thorough understanding of their interests.
  • Responsible for managing a category for Rocket Growth – including top and bottom-line goals, and responsible for devising the strategy for category growth opportunities across Rocket growth
  • Managing the seller ecosystem and building relationships with key sellers, and managing a large extended team of Account managers responsible for driving input metrics to drive seller success
  • Responsible for driving seller acquisition strategies and working closely with Product/Program teams to drive structural programs for the same.
  • Influence teams across hierarchies to deliver results and lead communication with leadership regarding category and channel strategy based on company goals related to and not limited to selection, profitability, etc.
  • Think outside the box, wear multiple hats, and is excited by deciphering multiple urgent needs to deliver meaningful results whilst moving quickly.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least 15 years of experience in the field of business
  • Ability to provide “hands-on” leadership to solve problems based on experiences with playing a managerial role and successfully handling end-to-end aspects of a business,including P&L
  • Ability to influence the organization with strong and verifiable analytical skills
  • Very strong stakeholder management skills and negotiation skills
  • Experience in the eCommerce industry across category management leading large teams
  • Experience in managing/building a team and hiring team members including your subordinate employees
  • Fluent in Korean and English

  • Experience in taking on challenges and acting decisively to innovate existing practices in order to maximize customer satisfaction, which is our top priority
  • Interest in technologies and experience in driving an initiative to simplify tasks and bring about changes through systematization
  • Strong communication skills/experiences that help preparing persuasive and clear documents and providing ideas in a passionate and convincing manner
  • Experience in conducting an excellent negotiation with a high-level representative of a domestic/global company
  • Ability to act rapidly and courageously without fear of failure

In such case, within fourteen (14) days from the date of identifying the receipt of the request, the Company will send the hiring documents to the job applicant’s designated address via registered mail. In preparation for a job applicant’s request for the return of hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above, the Company shall retain the original hiring documents submitted by the job applicant for 180 days from the completion of the recruiting process. If no request is made until the end of this period, all his/her hiring documents will be destroyed immediately in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
  5. The above paragraphs 1 - 4 shall only apply when the labor-related laws of Korea govern the application. They are otherwise not applicable.
