Team Description:
Coupang Taiwan is looking for a smart, customer obsessed, driven and creative Senior Legal Counsel to support Coupang e-commerce and fulfillment service. We are looking for a seasoned Fair Trade Legal Counsel to join our team and help shape the legal framework that supports our expansion in Taiwan and beyond.
As the Fair Trade Legal Counsel, you will play a critical role in ensuring our compliance with fair trade laws and regulations in Taiwan. You will lead the establishment of a legal framework that supports our strategic objectives while fostering a culture of compliance and ethical business practices. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and lead a legal team from the ground up, providing strategic counsel across all areas of our business, including ecommerce, fulfilment centers, transportation/logistics, HR, inventory supply, and general corporate governance. The candidate will also proactively respond to the business team and will interact daily with different stakeholders, supporting them in a very agile way.
What will you do?
- Strategic Legal Guidance: Provide expert legal advice on fair trade laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and international trade practices.

Team Leadership: Build, hire, and lead a team of legal professionals focused on fair trade and competition law, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
• Policy Development: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with fair trade regulations and to promote ethical practices across the organization. -
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks related to trade practices, ensuring the company’s interests are protected while maintaining regulatory compliance. -
Contract Review & Negotiation: Oversee the review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to fair trade, ensuring alignment with company policies and legal requirements. -
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, product, and sales teams, to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business strategies. -
Regulatory Advocacy: Represent the company in discussions with regulatory bodies, trade associations, and industry groups to advocate for fair and balanced trade practices. - Represent Coupang in connection with any inquiries by regulators in Taiwan.
- Manage and instruct external law firms as required.
- Coordinate and cooperate with the legal and compliance organizations across all Coupang entities in maintaining and updating legally complying company policies and procedures
- Forecast legal risks and make plans to anticipate and prevent them.
- Be Agile leader in taking actions against legal challenges the company is facing in coordination with external and internal legal teams.
- Provide creative legal advice to the business promptly, reviewing lawsuits and legal affairs across all the company.
Essential Qualifications:
- Qualified lawyer in Taiwan or foreign qualified lawyer with extensive experience working in Taiwan in fair trade law, competition law, or a related field, with a strong understanding of the legal landscape in Taiwan.
- At least 10+ years of post-qualification legal experience. either in a law firm or a mixture of law firm and in-house experience
- Fluency in Mandarin is essential. Working level English proficiency is an advantage though not necessary
- Exceptional ability to consistently deliver creative, thoughtful and business-oriented results that appropriately balance growth and risk in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- A willingness to learn voraciously and take on new scope and challenges.
- Ability to adapt easily to rapid and diverse business changes.
- Sound judgement in developing and implementing legal solutions.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to prioritize work in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with ambiguous problems
- Excellent stakeholder management experience.
- Strong communication skills - speaking, writing, presenting and negotiating.
- Capability to work through relevant government authorities on immediate legal issues the company is facing through existing networks or being able to quickly establish working network.
