About the position:

The Import Compliance Director works cross-functionally with partners and stakeholders to combat areas of Global Sourcing compliance including Import regulations to Taiwan and Product compliance risk assessment & mitigation plans cutting across product categories. The Compliance Director oversees the monitoring and auditing of import risk management activities across both direct import and cross border eCommerce and plays a pivotal role in establishing systems and processes to facilitate smooth import operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establishes standards and procedures for import risk management and conduct risk assessments to ensure that the businesses comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies
  • Collaborates with teams including Compliance policy, Legal, SCM, Brand management to ensure seamless import of globally sourced products
  • Stays informed about the regulatory landscape, industry trends, norms and best practices, and internal operations in order to communicate solution-based recommendations to stakeholders
  • Proactively discovers new and emerging threats by reviewing data for anomalies
  • Proactively reviews processes to identify inefficiencies, risk control gaps, and drives opportunities for improved effectiveness
  • Sets priorities by sizing issues through data discovery and reporting back to senior leaders with recommendations
  • Leads design and operationalization of risk management frameworks, strategies, and methodologies (e.g. measurement and modeling) and scenario analyses
  • Collaborates with data analysts to create and design regular reporting that tracks progress of programs and projects and uses this report to update senior leadership
  • Audits operational procedures to ensure compliance with internal standards and for discovery of needed enhancements

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in operations, Import compliance to Taiwan, product compliance, or consulting within Product compliance discipline
  • Experience with risk controls frameworks (e.g. business risk assessments, regulatory reviews) and translating regulatory requirements into operational procedures
  • Excellent problem-solving, and attention to detail skills with experience solving problems across multiple functions and stakeholders at scale
  • Ability to transform policy requirements to operational activities within a complex product import management environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with demonstrable multi-dimensional stakeholder management capabilities
  • Experience in project/program management (e.g. interpersonal, verbal, written communication)
  • Experience in risk modeling or scenario analysis will be a plus

What will you do?

  1. Develop and maintain Import Product Compliance Checklists/Guidelines for Product Compliance Audits. These checklists will be developed and maintained to test the compliance requirements including Product listing, SDP /labelling requirements, quality check, storage & transportation, product recall reporting and safe disposal related requirements for products across categories.
  2. Develop a risk-based plan to conduct audits related to Product Compliance. These reviews would be conducted prior to as well as post importing. Review the data related to supplier performance, product returns, customer complaints to analyze potential risks. escalate structural issues that should be approached throughout the company and chase remediation progress
  3. Develop a method to collect, retain, and assess applicable laws, regulations, and pertinent standards and conduct research, assessing impact, and communicating results, legislative or regulatory updates to business partners about these applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Identify and assess potential risks related to product safety and regulatory compliance
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies providing compliance services
  6. Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and industry bodies to stay informed of emerging risks and regulatory changes.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Working experience 10+ years in Import product compliance
  • Solves the problem by supporting projects of importance/scale that can affect strategy execution and direction of the strategy
  • Knowledge of both food and non-food supply chain and enforcement processes in high volume retail industries and related legal requirements
  • Need to have project management skills, strong communication, and vision to get the project completed on time
  • A mix of policy and project management experience
  • Problem solver, Self-driven, Interpersonal skill, Team player
  • Ability to thrive in a high energy environment where tactical and strategic activities are driven in parallel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years direct experience in Import compliance program management within fast-paced, technology driven retail businesses a strong plus
  • Key Competencies: overall process ownership; deals well with ambiguity, functions well and able to clearly define processes in loosely structured situations;
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to work independently and autonomously.
  • Good problem-solving skill: acts decisively, promptly and confidently. Not afraid to contradict others and proactively offering solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and English to deliver presentation and training
