Responsibilities
- AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK) Development
- Build and maintain custom AWS Controllers for Kubernetes that automate AWS service provisioning and management
- Develop sophisticated operators that manage complex AWS infrastructure lifecycles through Kubernetes APIs
- Design CRDs that abstract AWS complexity into simple, developer-friendly interfaces
- Optimize ACK controllers for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness at scale
- Service Mesh & Cloud-Native Architecture
- Design and implement service mesh solutions for traffic management, security, and observability
- Build automated Envoy proxy configurations and traffic policies
- Implement zero-trust networking with automated certificate management
- Create intelligent traffic routing and load balancing solutions
- Kubernetes Platform Engineering
- Design and automate EKS cluster provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management
- Build systems that manage applications across multiple Kubernetes clusters and regions
- Create GitOps workflows that enable declarative infrastructure and application management
- Develop custom APIs and admission controllers that enforce policies and best practices
- Developer Experience & Self-Service
- Create simple interfaces that hide AWS complexity from development teams
- Build Kubernetes-native platforms where developers can provision infrastructure through familiar APIs
- Create CLI tools, kubectl plugins, and web interfaces that simplify infrastructure operations
- Build systems that automatically generate and maintain infrastructure documentation
Qualifications
- 4+ years of AWS experience with services like EKS, VPC, IAM, RDS, and load balancers
- Service Mesh experience with Istio, Envoy, or similar technologies
- Container orchestration expertise with Docker, containerd, and Kubernetes networking
- GitOps experience with ArgoCD, Flux, or similar tools
- 7+ years of Kubernetes experience including custom controller and operator development
- AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK) experience or similar controller frameworks
- Kubernetes internals knowledge including API server, etcd, scheduler, and kubelet
- Service mesh architecture experience with multi-cluster and multi-region deployments
- Cloud-native security expertise with SPIFFE/SPIRE, OPA, or Falco
- Mentoring experience with junior engineers and cross-team technical leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- CNCF ecosystem experience with Prometheus, Grafana and other cloud-native tools
- Terraform/Crossplane experience for infrastructure as code
- Helm/Kustomize expertise for Kubernetes application packaging
- Observability experience with distributed tracing and metrics collection
- Multi-cloud experience with GCP, Azure, or hybrid architectures
- Open source contribution to Kubernetes, Istio, or related projects

Key Projects You'll Lead
- Intelligent AWS Resource Management: Build ACK-based controllers that automatically provision, configure, and manage AWS resources based on application requirements and usage patterns.
- Multi-Cluster Service Mesh: Design and implement a service mesh architecture that spans multiple EKS clusters and regions with automated traffic management and security policies.
- Developer Self-Service Platform: Create a Kubernetes-native platform where developers can provision databases, load balancers, and other AWS services through simple YAML manifests.
- Infrastructure Drift Detection & Remediation: Develop systems that automatically detect and remediate infrastructure drift, ensuring declared state matches actual state across all environments.
