About you

About this role
As the Engineering Manager on the Globalisation POD you will be building up and leading a team of engineers to support international markets at Udemy. As a manager of the globalization team you will be working closely with partners to understand International needs of Udemy learners and enterprises. You will help build a team that will lay down the service-oriented foundation for Globalization at Udemy and collaborate with other teams on connecting instructors, learners, and organization on their skill development journey.
What you'll be doing:
- Manage and develop a team of software engineers to design and build scalable and flexible service-oriented solutions
- Work closely with product, design, business development and other internal stakeholders to define team’s strategy, create a roadmap and prioritize projects
- Plan, organize, and complete work within agile sprints
- Grow and nourish a culture that values openness, inclusiveness, respect, quality, robustness, scalability, and humility while fostering innovation
What you’ll have:
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience, with 2+ years of managing software engineers with a focus on constant flow of feedback and career development
- Experience defining strategy, roadmaps and prioritizing work in your area to deliver business value
- Experience working in a highly collaborative environment that involves product, design and stakeholders
- Experience working closely with Global Engineering teams
- Strong object-oriented programming skills, knowledge of best practices and expertise in at least one programming language
- Experience with designing scalable systems with microservices and event-driven architecture
- Experience designing scalable, secure and performant APIs (REST, GraphQL)
- Experience with web application development in technologies such as HTTP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience working with Internationalisation of products
- Experience with the following: GraphQL, modern JavaScript libraries/frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue, etc.), Python/Django and Kotlin/Spring Boot
