You want to lead the way in innovation, exploring the latest technologies and finding new solutions. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are eager to work with and learn alongside the best in Product, Design, and Engineering.
About this role
As this is a new discipline at Udemy, the ideal candidate is excited about establishing the foundations for a business-focused data program, thinking strategically with our leadership team on continued development of this discipline while working closely with our Analytics Engineering team on execution. You should thrive in an environment where you have the ability to tackle large, ambiguous problems and you should be very comfortable with being hands-on with data and using it to make strategic business decisions at a fast moving public company. Success requires a passion for building great data products for internal customers and enthusiasm for leading high performing teams, working in partnership with business, analytics engineering, data science, and other product and engineering teams.
What you'll be doing:
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and business teams in defining, prioritizing, and leading data warehousing focused initiatives from discovery through launch.
- Identify opportunities and define the data product direction for Analytics Engineering at Udemy.
- Develop an understanding of, and empathy for, internal teams’ data needs and represent their voice in developing and executing against a customer-centric data roadmap.
- Perform requirements elicitation for enterprise-scale data warehousing projects, document business process details, metric and business definitions, and reporting and analytics requirements.
- Perform data analysis and work hands on in SQL to translate business requirements into working code that produces accurate, user friendly data sets.
- Design dimensional data models in partnership with analytics engineers to build out Udemy’s data warehouse model.
What you’ll have
- You have 10+ years of experience in data, analytics, or technical analyst roles.
- Professional experience and passion for building internal data warehousing and analytics products and platforms.
- You’re an expert at SQL.
- Extensive experience with requirements elicitation for enterprise data warehouse projects.
- Extensive, hands-on experience with dimensional and normalized data modeling.
- Ideal candidate has experience driving large-scale change in an engineering-driven organization.
- Deep technical understanding of batch and streaming data systems, familiarity with cloud based data lakes/warehouses (Databricks and Redshift preferred), and exposure to open source data platforms (Kafka, Spark, Hive, dbt, etc.).
We understand that not everyone will match each of the above qualifications. However, we also realize that everyone has unique experiences that can add value to our company. Even if you think your background might not perfectly align, we'd love to hear from you!

Our reason to exist is to revolutionize learning – that calls for taking risks and learning from failures. Whether it’s our hackathons (a company-wide effort to envision new possibilities for our product) or sharing our prototypes, we see experimentation as a crucial step on the path to success.
