About this role
As a Principal Software Engineer in the Instructor Interactions and Insights Team at Udemy, you will be responsible for the platforms that manage all aspects of instructor interactions (Direct Message, Announcements, Reviews, Q&A, etc..) and insights (course consumptions, enrollments, etc...). You will work closely with the product, design and data teams to develop platforms to personalize instructor interactions and insights.
What you'll be doing:
- Propose an initial technical implementation designed to address architectural changes, specifically targeting scalability and performance issues.
- Tackle technical challenges of the highest magnitude, complexity, and ambiguity within the team's responsibilities.
- Working on full-stack development in Kotlin, Spring Boot, Python, Django, React, Spark and MySQL, Kafka, Redis.
- Developing, testing, documenting, and releasing full-stack, end-to-end features
- Participating in sprint planning and getting work done in two-week sprints
- Participating in code reviews as well as post-deployment site monitoring
- Contributing to a team culture that values quality, robustness, and scalability while fostering innovation.
- Researching and evaluating new technologies that may improve our processes or code bases
- Mentor and collaborate with the team members to deliver features in the product roadmap
What you’ll have
- 10+ years of professional software development experience
- Knowledge of object-oriented design and computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms)
- Experience with Java, Kotlin, or any modern object-oriented language
- Experience with Python
- Experience in microservice architecture
- Understanding of distributed system and messaging concepts
- Experience with web application development using modern framework ORMs (e.g. Django, Rails, Symfony, CodeIgniter, etc.)
- Experience with web application technologies including HTTP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes
