About you
You have experience in building scalable platform services that support critical customer experiences and are foundational to other development teams. You have an interest in security, identity, and anti-fraud. You demonstrate an enjoyment in learning and have a proven track record of acquiring skills outside of your comfort zone.
About this role
Udemy is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (IC4) to join the Account Trust team in Dublin, Ireland. We are part of the Platform Engineering organization that treats security and compliance as an integral part of product development.
You will safeguard our customers against security risks and abuse, modernize our login and signup experience with the latest in authentication standards, and ship code based on our platform using micro-frontends and micro-services. You’ll grow by understanding how bad actors could abuse our platform, implement protections for our instructors and learners, and be responsible for the uptime of our production systems.
What you'll be doing
- Implement new services that focus on improving user experience and enhancing security on the Udemy platform.
- Contribute significantly to the design process and roadmap of the team.
- Identify new business problems that bring value to both consumers and enterprise customers.
- Come up to speed on existing systems in a self driven way. Provide code reviews and bug fixes as required to support work across the company.
- Integrate with third-party products and APIs that support combating abuse and improving security.
- Provide platform support for other development teams within Udemy that rely on the code and the services that you deliver.
- Work with our customer-facing Trust and Safety team to better understand patterns of abuse and security risks on our platform.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and be operationally responsible for the services that you ship along with your teammates.
- Mentor junior team members by providing both technical and career guidance.
What you’ll have
- Minimum of 5 – 7 years of professional experience working on a team in full stack software development with backend and frontend deliverables. Experience in both backend and front-end is expected. Mastery of both is not.
- Experience in Python, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, or Typescript.
- Experience building APIs with gRPC or REST.
- Experience styling paging using CSS, SASS, or Less.
- Experience with SpringBoot, NextJS and React.
- A track record of continuous learning and problem-solving.
- Experience building front-end or backend services on a cloud platform (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc)
- Experience in building scalable distributed systems
- Knowledge of Web Application Security, such as cookies, CORS, XSS, and CSP.
- Knowledge of cryptography, network security, or authentication/authorization standards.
Nice to have
- Experience with GraphQL.
